Acute Myeloid Leukemia (AML) is a type of cancer affecting the blood and bone marrow with a sudden onset that requires immediate treatment. This study compares two approaches to help AML patients: specialty palliative care, a team of experts who focus on relieving symptoms and improving patients' quality of life, and primary palliative care, where the regular cancer doctors are trained to provide these supportive care skills.

Participants will receive either type of care during their hospital stay, depending on their hospital's assignment. The aim is to see which method better supports patients and their caregivers, improving their quality of life and coping with the illness.

  • Participants will be randomly assigned to a care approach based on hospital assignment.
  • Involves collaboration between oncology and palliative care teams.
  • Study includes patients with specific types of AML and their caregivers.

Patients must be at least 18 years old with high-risk AML and should have started treatment recently. Caregivers must be adults who have regular contact with the patient. The study excludes those with certain other leukemia types or severe psychiatric conditions.
