Phase 3

This study is for adults with chronic kidney disease (CKD), even if they have type 2 diabetes. It tests if a new medicine, BI 690517, helps when combined with empagliflozin, another drug. Empagliflozin is already used to treat CKD and heart problems. Some people in the study will get BI 690517, while others will get a placebo (a fake pill without medicine) to compare results.

Participants take one study pill daily for about 3 to 4 years. In the first six months, they visit the study site 5 times, then every six months. During visits, doctors check the participant's health, blood pressure, weight, and kidney function. They also collect blood and urine samples and note any side effects. This study aims to see if the medicine can keep the kidneys healthier for longer.

  • Length: Study lasts 3 to 4 years.
  • Visits: Initial 5 visits in 6 months, then every 6 months.
  • Participation: Open to those on specific medications; compensation details not provided.
