Comparing The Safety And Efficacy Of DEFENCATH® In Reducing Central-Line Bloodstream Infections (CLABSIs) In Adults And Adolescent Participants Receiving Total Parenteral Nutrition Through A Central Venous Catheter (CVC)

Studying DEFENCATH® to reduce infections in adults with CVC nutrition.

Phase 3

This study is looking at the safety and effectiveness of a medicine called DefenCath to reduce infections in adults using a central venous catheter (CVC), a special tube used to give nutrition directly into the blood. It compares DefenCath to heparin, another medicine. The study is "double-blind," meaning neither the participants nor the researchers know who is getting which treatment to ensure fairness.

  • Participants will be adults in the US and Türkiye, using a CVC for at least 7 days, and needing long-term nutrition therapy.
  • Participants should be willing to follow study procedures, including training on how to use the medicines and keeping a daily diary.
  • The study excludes those with certain health conditions or recent antibiotic use, and pregnant or lactating individuals.

This is a Phase 3 trial, meaning DefenCath has already shown promise in earlier research. Participants will help in understanding if DefenCath is a safer or better option for preventing infections in these situations. The study will involve keeping track of health and following specific guidelines for the duration of the research.

Why should I take part in a clinical trial?

Participating in a clinical trial provides early access to potentially effective treatments and directly contributes to the healthcare advancements that benefit us all.

How long does a clinical trial take place?

The duration of clinical trials varies. Some trials last weeks, some years, depending on the phase and intention of the trial.

Do I get compensated for taking part in clinical trials?

Compensation varies per trial. Some offer payment or reimbursement for time and travel, while others may not.

How safe are clinical trials?
