Phase 3

Study Purpose: This study tests if a new medicine, olpasiran, can lower the risk of heart problems in people with high levels of a substance called lipoprotein(a) or Lp(a). Lp(a) is a type of fat in the blood that can cause heart diseases.

Participation Details:

  • Eligibility: You must be at least 50 years old, have high Lp(a) levels, and risk factors for heart disease.
  • Exclusions: You cannot join if you've had heart attacks, strokes, or certain surgeries.
  • Study Commitment: Participation includes taking either the medicine or a placebo (a pill with no medicine) and attending regular check-ups.

Participants are evaluated to see if olpasiran can help prevent serious heart issues like heart attacks or the need for emergency heart surgery. The study aims to find new ways to protect people from heart disease by focusing on those with high Lp(a) levels. There may be risks, as with any study, so it's important to discuss with your doctor before joining.
