**Visual Influences on Vestibular Adaptation Study**

This study explores a balance-training exercise called *incremental vestibulo-ocular reflex adaptation* (IVA) to see if it's safe and helpful for adults with vision problems, with or without vestibular (inner-ear balance) issues. Vestibular refers to the system in our ears that helps with balance. The study has two main questions: does IVA cause only mild, temporary symptoms, and can it improve eye-movement reflexes, balance, and walking? The study will compare adults with only vision problems to those with both vision and vestibular issues.

Participants will complete symptom ratings and tests on how well their balance and walking improve. They will also undergo vestibular reflex tests to see the effects of IVA. IVA is a 15-minute, non-invasive exercise involving a moving laser target that helps improve reflexes by adjusting to head movements.

  • Participants will attend two study visits.
  • The study is for adults aged 18 to 60.
  • Participants need to provide informed consent before joining.

People with neurologic conditions, drug abuse, or major psychiatric disorders cannot participate.

Learn more about clinical trials

What is a clinical trial?

A clinical trial is a study designed to test specific interventions or treatments' effectiveness and safety, paving the way for new, innovative healthcare solutions.

Why should I take part in a clinical trial?

Participating in a clinical trial provides early access to potentially effective treatments and directly contributes to the healthcare advancements that benefit us all.

How long does a clinical trial take place?

The duration of clinical trials varies. Some trials last weeks, some years, depending on the phase and intention of the trial.

Do I get compensated for taking part in clinical trials?

Compensation varies per trial. Some offer payment or reimbursement for time and travel, while others may not.

How safe are clinical trials?

Clinical trials follow strict ethical guidelines and protocols to safeguard participants' health. They are closely monitored and safety reviewed regularly.
