The Swedish BioFINDER - Primary Care Study

Phase N/A

This study is about improving how doctors diagnose Alzheimer's disease (AD) and other memory problems in primary care, which is often the first place people go when they notice memory issues. The study will look at new tests and methods that could help doctors spot these problems earlier. For example, they will test new cognitive tests, which check how well a person thinks and remembers, and blood-based biomarkers, which are tests that look for signs of disease in the blood.

Key Points:

  • The study will involve about 1,200 patients and takes place in 20-30 clinics in Skåne, Sweden.
  • Participants will undergo various tests, including blood tests and brain scans, to aid in diagnosis.
  • The study will last for 3-5 years, tracking changes in participants' memory over time.

Participants must be over 40 years old and have memory complaints or other cognitive issues. They should not have an already diagnosed dementia or other conditions that explain their symptoms. This study could lead to better treatments and care for those with memory issues. Participants will need to visit their primary care unit for assessments and later attend a specialized Memory Clinic for more tests.
