Airway protective problems, like swallowing issues (dysphagia) and coughing disorders (dystussia), are common in people with Parkinson's Disease (PD). These issues can lead to aspiration pneumonia, a serious lung infection and a leading cause of death in PD. Sadly, many people with PD don't get the help they need for these problems. This study will test new treatments called Expiratory Muscle Strength Training (EMST) and Cough Skill Training (CST) both in-person and through telehealth (online or phone-based care). The researchers want to see if these treatments work just as well when done remotely. The study will involve 120 people with PD, who will receive either in-person or telehealth treatment over a four-week period, with follow-ups over a year. The goal is to improve health and make treatments more accessible.
- The study will last one year, with assessments at six and twelve months.
- Treatment will be conducted in-person or via telehealth.
- Participants must be aged 50-90 and have specific medical conditions related to PD.
