PET Imaging of Cyclooxygenases in Neurodegenerative Brain Disease

We are studying brain diseases using PET scans.

Phase 1

Study Purpose: This study is exploring if certain enzymes, called cyclooxygenase (COX-1 and COX-2), are higher in the brains of people with diseases like Alzheimer's. These enzymes are related to brain inflammation.

Study Details: Participants will have several medical assessments, including a magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) scan and two positron emission tomography (PET) scans. The MRI is a large tube that uses magnets to take pictures of the brain, while the PET scan uses a machine shaped like a donut to create brain images after injecting a special dye. The study will last from 1 week to 4 months, depending on scheduling needs.

  • Participants need to be 18 or older and in good health, even if they have a neurodegenerative disorder.
  • There will be 2-5 study visits.
  • Participants will be screened to ensure they do not have conditions that could affect the study results, like recent NSAID use or certain medical devices.

This study helps researchers understand brain inflammation better, which could lead to improved treatments for neurodegenerative diseases.

FAQs

Learn more about clinical trials

What is a clinical trial?

A clinical trial is a study designed to test specific interventions or treatments' effectiveness and safety, paving the way for new, innovative healthcare solutions.

Why should I take part in a clinical trial?

Participating in a clinical trial provides early access to potentially effective treatments and directly contributes to the healthcare advancements that benefit us all.

How long does a clinical trial take place?

The duration of clinical trials varies. Some trials last weeks, some years, depending on the phase and intention of the trial.

Do I get compensated for taking part in clinical trials?

Compensation varies per trial. Some offer payment or reimbursement for time and travel, while others may not.

How safe are clinical trials?

Clinical trials follow strict ethical guidelines and protocols to safeguard participants' health. They are closely monitored and safety reviewed regularly.
