Investigating Genetic Status in Patients Presenting to Clinic

Studying patients' genes to understand health conditions better.

Phase N/A

Neurodegenerative dementias, like **Alzheimer's disease** and **Frontotemporal Dementia**, are brain disorders that gradually worsen over time. The exact causes of these diseases are often unknown, though some are linked to **genetic mutations** (changes in genes) and **polymorphisms** (gene variations). These may be inherited through family genes, known as **autosomal dominant** patterns, where a child can get the disease if one parent has it. However, many genes involved in these diseases are not yet discovered. This study aims to explore the genetic makeup (**genotypes**) of patients with suspected or confirmed neurodegenerative dementia. We also study those with a family history of these diseases to identify unknown genetic factors.

  • The study is open to adults 18 years and older who can visit our clinic and agree to a blood test.
  • Participants should either have a neurodegenerative disorder or be a family member of someone diagnosed with one.
  • People who cannot or do not wish to have a blood test cannot participate.

FAQs

Learn more about clinical trials

What is a clinical trial?

A clinical trial is a study designed to test specific interventions or treatments' effectiveness and safety, paving the way for new, innovative healthcare solutions.

Why should I take part in a clinical trial?

Participating in a clinical trial provides early access to potentially effective treatments and directly contributes to the healthcare advancements that benefit us all.

How long does a clinical trial take place?

The duration of clinical trials varies. Some trials last weeks, some years, depending on the phase and intention of the trial.

Do I get compensated for taking part in clinical trials?

Compensation varies per trial. Some offer payment or reimbursement for time and travel, while others may not.

How safe are clinical trials?

Clinical trials follow strict ethical guidelines and protocols to safeguard participants' health. They are closely monitored and safety reviewed regularly.
