Parkinson's disease (PD) affects movement and thinking abilities. This study will see how Amazonian dance helps people with PD. The trial runs for 12 weeks, with participants aged 50-80. They'll be divided into groups that either do dance or other activities. The dance sessions occur twice a week, inspired by traditional dances from the Amazon region. The goal is to see if these dances improve cognition (thinking skills) and motor symptoms (movement abilities).
Eligibility: Participants must have a confirmed diagnosis of PD, be in early stages of the disease, and have been on stable medication for at least one year. Excluded are those with recent surgeries, other neurological diseases, or certain medical devices like pacemakers.
- Duration: 12 weeks with 24 total sessions
- Locations: Universities in Northern and Southern Brazil
- Compensation: No mention of financial compensation
Participants will be evaluated on their thinking, language, mood, and movement abilities. The study will compare outcomes between the dance group and a non-dance control group to see if dance can be a beneficial therapy for PD.
