Phase 4

Parkinson's disease (PD) affects movement and can cause psychosis, which means seeing or believing things that aren't real. This study compares two medicines, Quetiapine and Pimavanserin. Quetiapine is a common drug for PD psychosis but needs more research for its effectiveness and safety. Pimavanserin is a newer drug specifically approved for PD psychosis, but it also needs more study. This research aims to find out which is better for treating PD psychosis.

Veterans with PD experiencing psychosis can join this study by contacting their VA provider. The study involves regular assessments over 8 weeks at various VA Medical Centers. Participants will be randomly assigned to receive either Quetiapine or Pimavanserin and will be monitored for symptoms and side effects.

  • Study Duration: 8 weeks with multiple assessments.
  • Eligibility: Veterans with PD, age 40+, stable medication doses.
  • Participation: Regular contact with a 'caregiver' for support and attending study visits.
