The Effect of Repetitive Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation on Cognitive Improvement in Dementia With Lewy Bodies

Exploring brain stimulation to help with memory in Lewy Body dementia.

Phase 1/2

This study is exploring how **repetitive transcranial magnetic stimulation (rTMS)** affects people with **Dementia with Lewy Bodies (DLB)**. rTMS is a technique using magnetic fields to stimulate the brain. The focus is on the **occipital lobe**, the part of the brain that processes visual information. Participants will receive rTMS treatment for 12 weeks: 3 times a week for the first 2 weeks, then once a week for the next 10 weeks. The study will measure any improvements in thinking skills and overall mental health.

  • **Study Duration:** 12 weeks, with 3 visits per week initially, then 1 visit per week.
  • **Eligibility:** Participants must be 65+ years and meet specific health criteria.
  • **Safety Checks:** Regular monitoring for any side effects or adverse events.

Participants will undergo tests like **EEG** (a test that measures brain activity) and **MRI** (a scan that shows detailed images of the brain) before starting. The study focuses on safety and any cognitive benefits from the treatment. A special device called **Brain Hi ATNC-MDD V2** will be used, operated by trained technicians. All participants need to agree to regular visits and assessments to ensure the study's effectiveness and safety.

Learn more about clinical trials

What is a clinical trial?

A clinical trial is a study designed to test specific interventions or treatments' effectiveness and safety, paving the way for new, innovative healthcare solutions.

Why should I take part in a clinical trial?

Participating in a clinical trial provides early access to potentially effective treatments and directly contributes to the healthcare advancements that benefit us all.

How long does a clinical trial take place?

The duration of clinical trials varies. Some trials last weeks, some years, depending on the phase and intention of the trial.

Do I get compensated for taking part in clinical trials?

Compensation varies per trial. Some offer payment or reimbursement for time and travel, while others may not.

How safe are clinical trials?

Clinical trials follow strict ethical guidelines and protocols to safeguard participants' health. They are closely monitored and safety reviewed regularly.
