This study focuses on dyadic mindfulness, which means practicing mindfulness together with another person. It's designed for people with Parkinson's Disease (PwPD) and their caregivers. Mindfulness means paying attention to the present moment in a calm way. During the study, 100 pairs (called dyads) will be split into two groups. One group will do eight weekly 90-minute mindfulness sessions, while the other group will continue with their usual care. We're looking at how mindfulness affects feelings, relationships, and even the tiny bacteria in your gut (called the microbiome).

We want to see if practicing mindfulness can help reduce negative emotions in PwPD and their caregivers. Both people in each pair will be checked before the study, right after, and again four months later to see how they feel. Some pairs will also do interviews to talk about their experiences.

  • The study lasts about 4 months with sessions once a week for 8 weeks.
  • Participants must be able to communicate in Cantonese and give consent.
  • No prior regular mind-body practice like yoga or Tai Chi is allowed.
