The Swedish BioFINDER - Memory Clinic Study is looking at new ways to diagnose memory problems like dementia. Often, it's hard to tell what's causing memory issues. Doctors use a test called a cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) test, but it's not always accurate and can be uncomfortable. This study is testing new blood biomarkers—special substances in the blood that can help doctors make more accurate diagnoses. Blood tests are easier and cheaper than CSF tests.
In the study, 1,200 people at the Memory Clinic in Malmö will have blood and CSF tests. The results will help doctors decide if the blood test can replace the CSF test. They will assess the patients in three steps: first without test results, then with blood test results, and finally with both test results. This approach will show if blood tests can help doctors make better decisions.
- The study will last 2-3 years, with regular testing.
- Participants need to have blood and CSF samples taken.
- Doctors will use the test results to improve patient care.
