Parkinson's disease (PD) is a brain disorder that gets worse over time, affecting how people move and feel. To better understand PD, researchers are studying something called α-Synuclein proteins, which are found in the brains of people with PD. This study is named VαMPiRE and involves 600 PD patients and 600 people without PD. It aims to find new ways to detect PD early and watch how it progresses. They will take blood samples twice over 24 months for PD participants and once at the start for non-PD participants. The goal is to create a test that can find PD early using these blood samples, potentially helping many people get treatment sooner.

  • Participants may need to give blood samples twice in 24 months.
  • Regular follow-ups will be done to track disease progression.
  • Participants must give consent and be willing to join the study.

Why should I take part in a clinical trial?

Participating in a clinical trial provides early access to potentially effective treatments and directly contributes to the healthcare advancements that benefit us all.

How long does a clinical trial take place?

The duration of clinical trials varies. Some trials last weeks, some years, depending on the phase and intention of the trial.

Do I get compensated for taking part in clinical trials?

Compensation varies per trial. Some offer payment or reimbursement for time and travel, while others may not.

How safe are clinical trials?
