Phase N/A

The Swedish BioFINDER 2 Study will explore brain changes in Alzheimer’s disease (AD) and other dementias. Dementia is a condition that affects memory, thinking, and social abilities, and AD is a common type of dementia. The study uses advanced techniques like tau-PET and amyloid-PET scans to track changes in certain brain proteins that are linked to dementia. These scans help scientists see how these proteins spread in the brain over time. Participants will also have cognitive tests to check memory and thinking skills.

  • Participants will have various tests like MRI, PET scans, and spinal fluid analysis.
  • Some tests might be uncomfortable, like lumbar puncture (spinal tap), but provide important info.
  • Participants are grouped by age and cognitive health (healthy adults, those with minor memory concerns, and those with dementia).

This study aims to improve early diagnosis and treatment for dementia by understanding brain changes better. It is important for participants to be comfortable with medical tests and able to follow instructions in Swedish.

Why should I take part in a clinical trial?

Participating in a clinical trial provides early access to potentially effective treatments and directly contributes to the healthcare advancements that benefit us all.

How long does a clinical trial take place?

The duration of clinical trials varies. Some trials last weeks, some years, depending on the phase and intention of the trial.

Do I get compensated for taking part in clinical trials?

Compensation varies per trial. Some offer payment or reimbursement for time and travel, while others may not.

How safe are clinical trials?
