Phase N/A

This study observes how the throat and swallowing work in people with neurodegenerative diseases (conditions that cause the brain to gradually lose function). It focuses on problems with swallowing, known as dysphagia. Dysphagia can lead to dehydration and lung infections, which are serious. The study uses a test called FEES (Fiberoptic Endoscopic Evaluation of Swallowing), which uses a small camera to look at the throat while swallowing. Another test, laryngeal EMG, may also be used to study the throat muscles. Participants will answer two questionnaires about their swallowing and quality of life. The goal is to better understand swallowing issues in diseases like Parkinson's and MSA (multiple system atrophy) to improve diagnosis and care.

  • Participation: Non-interventional; it involves observation and questionnaires.
  • Eligibility: Diagnosis of certain neurodegenerative diseases is required.
  • Consent Required: Participants must sign a consent form to join.

Why should I take part in a clinical trial?

Participating in a clinical trial provides early access to potentially effective treatments and directly contributes to the healthcare advancements that benefit us all.

How long does a clinical trial take place?

The duration of clinical trials varies. Some trials last weeks, some years, depending on the phase and intention of the trial.

Do I get compensated for taking part in clinical trials?

Compensation varies per trial. Some offer payment or reimbursement for time and travel, while others may not.

How safe are clinical trials?
