Studying balance issues in Parkinson's Disease through motion and brain activity.

Phase N/A

This study is about understanding balance problems in Veterans with Parkinson's Disease (PD). PD is a brain disorder that makes it hard to move, causing symptoms like slow movement, stiff muscles, shaking, and trouble standing still (postural instability). These balance issues often lead to falls, which can be dangerous. To study this, researchers will use small wearable sensors on Veterans with PD to track their movements at home. They will also use brain devices called deep brain stimulation (DBS) electrodes to measure brain signals. This will help them learn more about how the brain controls balance and possibly find new treatments.

  • Participants will wear five sensors and a neck camera for one week.
  • The study is for Veterans with PD in stages 2-3 who can give consent.
  • Excludes those with severe dementia or other similar conditions.

FAQs

Learn more about clinical trials

What is a clinical trial?

A clinical trial is a study designed to test specific interventions or treatments' effectiveness and safety, paving the way for new, innovative healthcare solutions.

Why should I take part in a clinical trial?

Participating in a clinical trial provides early access to potentially effective treatments and directly contributes to the healthcare advancements that benefit us all.

How long does a clinical trial take place?

The duration of clinical trials varies. Some trials last weeks, some years, depending on the phase and intention of the trial.

Do I get compensated for taking part in clinical trials?

Compensation varies per trial. Some offer payment or reimbursement for time and travel, while others may not.

How safe are clinical trials?

Clinical trials follow strict ethical guidelines and protocols to safeguard participants' health. They are closely monitored and safety reviewed regularly.
