NMR Based Metabolomic Study of Serum Biomarkers in Patients With Parkinson's Disease and Atypical Parkinsonian Syndrome

Exploring blood markers for Parkinson's through a clinical study.

Phase N/A
This study focuses on finding reliable **biomarkers** for early diagnosis of Parkinson's Disease (PD) and Atypical Parkinsonian Syndrome (APS) using a method called **metabolomics**. Metabolomics studies the tiny chemicals called metabolites in our body, to see how they change in diseases like PD and APS. The method we'll use is called **proton nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) spectroscopy**, which helps us look at many metabolites at once without destroying the sample. Parkinson’s Disease is a brain disorder that worsens over time, affecting movement and leading to serious health issues. APS includes conditions similar to PD, making it hard to tell them apart early on. By studying blood serum, which is safer to collect than spinal fluid, researchers hope to find markers that can help diagnose these diseases earlier and more accurately. **Key Points:** - Age range for participants is 45-80 years. - The study involves analyzing blood samples using NMR. - Understand the risks and benefits of participating, as this study may not involve direct treatment. Participants must meet specific criteria and cannot have other conditions like hereditary Parkinson's or past surgeries like deep brain stimulation.

FAQs

Learn more about clinical trials

What is a clinical trial?

A clinical trial is a study designed to test specific interventions or treatments' effectiveness and safety, paving the way for new, innovative healthcare solutions.

Why should I take part in a clinical trial?

Participating in a clinical trial provides early access to potentially effective treatments and directly contributes to the healthcare advancements that benefit us all.

How long does a clinical trial take place?

The duration of clinical trials varies. Some trials last weeks, some years, depending on the phase and intention of the trial.

Do I get compensated for taking part in clinical trials?

Compensation varies per trial. Some offer payment or reimbursement for time and travel, while others may not.

How safe are clinical trials?

Clinical trials follow strict ethical guidelines and protocols to safeguard participants' health. They are closely monitored and safety reviewed regularly.
