This study is testing a new device called an automated abdominal binder, which helps people with a condition called orthostatic hypotension (low blood pressure when standing) due to autonomic failure (when your body doesn't control blood pressure well). The study checks if this device is safe and helps people stand without feeling dizzy.
The trial compares two groups: one using the binder at full power (40 mm Hg) and another at low power (5 mm Hg). Participants will have three study days, spaced two days apart. They will take a placebo pill (a pill with no medicine) three times a day (t.i.d) on one day, take a standard treatment pill called midodrine on another, and use the binder on the third. Blood pressure and heart rate will be checked in different positions.
- Participants stay at the Vanderbilt Clinical Research Center for the study.
- Eligible ages are 40 to 80, with specific health conditions.
- People with certain medical conditions or pregnant cannot join.
