This study investigates pancreatoduodenectomy. This study evaluates the effects of different durations of antibiotic prophylaxis on surgical site infections in patients with a high risk for contaminated bile.
The study focuses on assessing the safety and effectiveness of prolonged antibiotic use compared to standard care. It evaluates the impact on postoperative outcomes and the relationship between bile cultures and infections.
- Who can participate: Adults over 18 undergoing pancreatoduodenectomy with a high risk for contaminated bile, such as those with preoperative biliary drainage or ampullary malignancy, can participate. Exclusions include pregnancy, allergy to study antibiotics, or planned antibiotic treatment for conditions like cholangitis.
- Study details: Participants will either receive standard perioperative antibiotics or additional antibiotics for five days post-surgery. A placebo is not used in this study.
