This study investigates thromboprophylaxis in pancreatic surgery. Patients undergoing pancreatic surgery face a trade-off between thrombosis and bleeding, and there is no consensus on when to start thrombosis prevention.
This study evaluates the effectiveness of starting thromboprophylaxis before or after surgery. The purpose of this study is to provide insights into the safety and outcomes of both approaches.
- Who can participate: Adults undergoing pancreaticoduodenectomy, total pancreatectomy, or distal pancreatectomy for suspected cancer can participate. Exclusion includes those on anticoagulants, under 18, unable to consent, or with specific contraindications to low-molecular weight heparin.
- Study details: Participants will receive thromboprophylaxis either before or after surgery. An inactive substance that looks like the investigational medicine but does not contain any medicine may be used as a placebo.
