Phase 2
Improving Self-management in Adolescents With SCD This study is about helping young people with Sickle Cell Disease (SCD) manage their health better. SCD is a condition where the red blood cells are not shaped right, which can cause pain and other health problems. The study involves an 8-week online program called SCThrive, which includes using a mobile app. The goal is to see if SCThrive helps young people feel more in control of their health (patient activation), manage their health better, and reduce emergency room visits. Researchers will compare two groups: one using SCThrive and another receiving standard care with educational messages (SCHealthED). They want to know if SCThrive makes a difference and if improvements last 3 months after treatment. Key Points:
  • Participants must be 13-21 years old with SCD and receive care at specific clinics.
  • The study is conducted over 8 weeks, with follow-up surveys 3 months later.
  • Excludes those with other chronic diseases, non-English speakers, or cognitive/psychiatric disorders.
This study could help improve everyday life for young people with SCD.
