Phase 2

Cognitive Remediation Intervention to Prepare for Transition of Care is a study designed to help kids with sickle cell disease (SCD) get ready to take care of themselves as they grow into adults. SCD can sometimes make it hard for kids to learn and make decisions. This study uses a program called C-READY, which is done over the computer, to teach important life skills like managing medication or handling pain. Kids aged 10-18 with SCD can join, but they cannot have a history of seizures or certain other conditions.

The study lasts for 4 weeks, with 8 one-hour sessions online. The sessions are held between the child and a trained therapist. Parents or caregivers also join in weekly phone calls. The goal is to improve skills needed for adulthood. This study is important because it uses telehealth, making it easier for families who might have trouble traveling to a clinic.

  • Duration: 4 weeks, 8 sessions.
  • Format: Online telehealth sessions.
  • Participation: 120 kids with SCD, ages 10-18.
