Collection of Human Biospecimens for Basic and Clinical Research Into Globin Variants

Collecting blood samples to study globin variants.

Recruiting
18-70 years
All
Phase N/A

Researchers are studying blood disorders like sickle cell disease and malaria. They want to collect biological samples from both people with these disorders and healthy individuals. To join this study, you must be between the ages of 18-70. You will need to provide samples, which might include saliva, urine, blood, fat tissue, or mucus from the lungs. Participation may involve a medical check-up and multiple sample collections over a 5-year period. Some procedures, like taking mucus from the lungs, require sedation and have specific requirements, such as not having a respiratory infection or smoking recently.

  • The study lasts up to 5 years with possible multiple sample collections.
  • Healthy volunteers and those with blood disorders are needed.
  • Some procedures may require sedation and have specific health criteria.

Participants will be excluded if they are pregnant, have certain viral infections, or have specific medical conditions that make participation unsafe. If you're taking blood-thinning medication or have bleeding issues, you may not be eligible for certain procedures. Potential participants should consider these requirements and risks before joining the study.
