The Sickle Cell Children's Exercise Study (SuCCESs) is looking at how exercise can help kids with sickle cell disease. Sickle cell disease is a condition where red blood cells, which usually look like round donuts, change into a sickle shape. This can make it hard for them to move through blood vessels, causing pain and other problems.
In this study, kids will try an exercise program that includes strengthening, balance, speed, and agility exercises. They will do this for six weeks. At the start and end of the six weeks, they will have assessments to see how the exercises helped. There will be six in-person sessions at the University of Maryland and 12 sessions at home.
- **Who Can Join?** Children aged 6-17 with sickle cell disease.
- **Commitment:** Six in-person visits and 12 home sessions over six weeks.
- **Exclusions:** Kids with other neurological disorders or recent leg injuries.
