Sickle cell disease (SCD) is a genetic condition where red blood cells become stiff and sticky, forming a sickle shape. This can block blood flow, causing pain and tissue damage. Kids with SCD often have less ability to exercise because their muscles and balance can be affected by the pain. This study aims to understand how pain affects balance and strength in children with SCD. Knowing this can help create safe exercise plans for these children to improve their daily abilities.
This study will include 80 children, aged 9-14, with 40 healthy children and 40 children with SCD. The strength of muscles will be measured using a device called a hand-held dynamometer, which helps show how strong the muscles are. Children with SCD must be stable in their condition and regularly take their medications.
- Participants should be between 9-14 years old.
- The study involves measuring muscle strength and balance.
- No regular sports activity for healthy children during the study.
