Sickle Cell Disease is a blood disorder that affects red blood cells, making them shaped like a sickle instead of round. This study looks at how early life experiences, like childhood challenges, can impact children with this disease. It also explores how things like nutrition and social factors might help improve their health.
The study involves 20 groups of mothers and babies, called dyads. These dyads will either join a breastfeeding group for support or just be observed. The goal is to see if the breastfeeding group leads to better health outcomes, such as less inflammation or fewer asthma and pain incidents.
- Duration: Participation requires at least 6 months of commitment.
- Location: Participants must live near Birmingham, Alabama.
- Requirements: Must have internet access to join the study.
