This study aims to see if a medicine called hydroxyurea can prevent strokes in kids with sickle cell anemia (SCA) in Nigeria. Sickle cell anemia is a blood disorder that makes red blood cells sickle-shaped and can cause pain and strokes. Regular blood transfusions, a common stroke prevention method, aren't practical in Nigeria. So, the study is testing hydroxyurea, a pill that might help prevent strokes without needing transfusions.
Children aged 5-12 years with sickle cell anemia are invited to join the study. They must have certain blood test results and be able to swallow pills. Kids who have had a stroke before or have other serious health issues can't join.
- *Study lasts for 2.5 years with check-ups every 3 months.*
- *Participants will receive hydroxyurea, and their health will be monitored closely.*
- *The study aims to make stroke prevention more accessible and affordable.*
