**Study Overview:** This study investigates how a contraceptive implant affects women with Sickle Cell Disease (SCD). SCD is a genetic blood disorder that causes pain and reduces life span. The study will see if the implant helps improve life quality and reduce pain episodes called vaso-occlusive crises, where blood cells block blood flow.
**Study Design:** It's a crossover study with two phases over 9 months. The first phase lasts 3 months with no hormonal contraceptives. Participants must use other methods like abstinence or a non-hormonal device. The second phase lasts 6 months with a progestin implant, which is a small rod placed under the skin to release hormones that prevent pregnancy.
**Eligibility:** Participants must be women aged 18-45 with SCD, have at least one pain episode monthly, and agree to stop using hormonal contraceptives before starting the study.
- Duration: 9-month study
- Contraception: Progestin implant for 6 months
- Participation: Must stop hormonal contraceptives 1 month prior
