Phase 2

This study focuses on people with sickle cell disease (SCD), a condition where red blood cells are sickle-shaped, which can cause health issues. The study aims to prevent heart complications by checking for early signs of iron buildup in the heart. This is done through special heart tests like ECG (electrocardiogram), echocardiogram, and cardiac MRI every 3 months for a year.

Iron chelation is a treatment to remove excess iron, and medications for heart health will be used. Participants must be at least 18 years old, have SCD, and show certain iron levels or symptoms. They must also be healthy enough to participate, as determined by a doctor.

  • Study Length: 12 months with tests every 3 months.
  • Treatment: Iron chelation and heart medications.
  • Eligibility: Must be 18 or older with SCD and meet certain health criteria.
