The study is researching how well a drug called crizanlizumab works and how safe it is for people with Sickle Cell Disease (SCD). SCD is a condition where red blood cells, which usually carry oxygen, become sickle-shaped and block blood flow, causing pain known as vaso-occlusive crises (VOCs). The study compares crizanlizumab to a placebo (a pill with no medicine) and involves participants aged 12 and older who have had 4-12 VOCs in the past year.
Participants may or may not be taking another medicine called hydroxyurea/hydroxycarbamide (HU/HC) to manage their condition. Participation involves random assignment to receive either crizanlizumab or placebo. The study aims to ensure that the drug is effective and safe for frequent VOC sufferers.
- Duration: Participants will be part of the study for at least 52 weeks.
- Visits: Regular visits for monitoring are required throughout the study.
- Compensation: Details on compensation for participation should be confirmed with the study team.
