Phase N/A
Study on Spleen Functions and Diseases The spleen is an organ that helps the body fight diseases and filter blood. However, we still don't fully understand how it works. This study aims to learn more about the spleen by studying how it handles changes in blood cells and its role in diseases like malaria. Adults planning to have surgery involving the spleen (like splenectomy, where part or all of the spleen is removed) can join the study. Blood samples will be taken before or during surgery, and the spleen or its parts will be collected for analysis. The spleen will be washed with a special fluid to study its response to different conditions. These samples will help researchers understand spleen functions better and check if certain substances can help treat related diseases.
  • Participants must already be undergoing spleen-related surgery.
  • Blood and spleen samples will be used for research purposes.
  • You can opt out if you don't want your samples used.
Note: Participation involves use of surgical samples and does not include additional medical interventions.

FAQs

Learn more about clinical trials

What is a clinical trial?

A clinical trial is a study designed to test specific interventions or treatments' effectiveness and safety, paving the way for new, innovative healthcare solutions.

Why should I take part in a clinical trial?

Participating in a clinical trial provides early access to potentially effective treatments and directly contributes to the healthcare advancements that benefit us all.

How long does a clinical trial take place?

The duration of clinical trials varies. Some trials last weeks, some years, depending on the phase and intention of the trial.

Do I get compensated for taking part in clinical trials?

Compensation varies per trial. Some offer payment or reimbursement for time and travel, while others may not.

How safe are clinical trials?

Clinical trials follow strict ethical guidelines and protocols to safeguard participants' health. They are closely monitored and safety reviewed regularly.
