This study is for kids aged 9 months to 11 years with Sickle Cell Disease (SCD). Sickle Cell Disease is a condition where red blood cells are shaped like a sickle, which can block blood flow and cause pain. The study looks at how a medicine called Hydroxycarbamide works and how safe it is when taken as a special tablet twice a day. The study lasts for 12 months. Children will visit the clinic at least 6 times: at the start, and then at 1, 3, 6, 9, and 12 months.
Key Points:
- Participants will take the medicine twice daily for a year.
- There are regular clinic visits to monitor progress and safety.
- The study is not suitable for children who have been on other SCD treatments or have certain health conditions.
Parents must agree to the study, and children should too, if possible. It's important to be able to communicate with the study team and fulfill all study requirements.
