This study looks at older women with Sickle Cell Trait (SCT), a blood condition where red cells are partly shaped like a sickle. It compares women with SCT to those without it to see if SCT affects bone health and muscle function. The study is for postmenopausal women of African Descent who are 50 years or older and haven't had a period for at least a year. You don't need to know if you have SCT to join; they'll check for you.
The study is a one-time assessment, meaning you only need to visit once. Researchers aim to understand if SCT leads to weaker bones or more frailty (being weak and more likely to get hurt) as women get older. This could help discover new health risks for women with SCT.
- Participation requires one visit to the research center.
- No known sickle cell disease is allowed.
- Excludes those on certain medications or with some bone disorders.
