This study aims to see if a new stress management and mindfulness program can help people with sickle cell disease feel better. Sickle cell disease is a condition where red blood cells become misshapen and can cause pain and other health problems. This program uses various techniques, like cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT), to help manage stress and improve self-care. CBT helps change negative thought patterns and behaviors. Participants will be split into two groups: one starts the program right away, and the other waits six weeks. The program includes six weekly one-hour sessions, either in person at the University of Pennsylvania or online through Zoom. Dr. Melissa Hunt, an expert in mindfulness and chronic health conditions, leads the sessions. Participants can use a special meditation app called Blackfulness, made for black people, to practice between sessions.
- Six weekly one-hour sessions, either in person or online.
- Participants must live within 90 minutes of Philadelphia.
