This study investigates how celiac disease and a gluten-free diet affect the nutritional status and quality of life in children and adolescents. Celiac disease is a condition where consuming gluten leads to damage in the small intestine, requiring a strict gluten-free diet for management. This study compares children with celiac disease to healthy children to understand these impacts.
Participants will undergo several assessments including a 24-hour dietary recall to evaluate nutrient intake, blood tests for vitamin and mineral levels, and measurements of gluten exposure through feces and urine samples. Additionally, body composition will be measured using dual-energy x-ray absorptiometry (DXA), and health-related quality of life will be assessed using the PedsQL tool.
- Who can participate: The study is open to children and adolescents aged X to Y who are currently eating a regular diet. Specific inclusion and exclusion criteria are applied to ensure appropriate participation.
- Study details: Participants will provide dietary information, blood samples, and complete questionnaires. They will also provide feces and urine samples, and have their weight, height, and bone density measured.
