Shingrix is a vaccine to protect against shingles, a painful rash caused by the varicella-zoster virus. This study is for adults with chronic kidney failure who are waiting for a kidney transplant. Researchers want to learn if the vaccine works well and is safe for these patients, especially if they receive a third dose after their transplant.
Participants will be screened to join the study and will attend around 3 to 6 visits over 30 to 37 months. They will receive two doses of Shingrix if not already vaccinated. If they get a kidney transplant during the study, they might get a third dose by chance. The study will include surveys, physical exams, and blood samples to see how the vaccine affects the immune system and safety.
Shingrix is approved for people 50 and older or those with weak immune systems. However, a third dose after transplant is not usual, and this study is testing it. The study aims to provide better vaccination strategies for patients needing transplants.
