Phase 4

PRECIDENTD is a study for people with type 2 diabetes (T2D) who have heart disease or are at high risk. The study will compare two treatments: sodium-glucose cotransporter-2 inhibitor (SGLT2i) and glucagon-like peptide-1 receptor agonists (GLP-1RA). These are medicines that help control blood sugar. The study will follow 6,000 participants to see how they prevent heart attacks, strokes, and kidney problems.

Participants must have T2D and either established heart disease or be at high risk. They must agree to take one of the study medications and not start the other unless advised by their doctor.

  • The study will last until 2028, and participants will be monitored for various health events.
  • Participants need to be willing to stop their current diabetes medication if it includes SGLT2i or GLP-1RA.
  • Participants must agree to share their health information for the study.

People with other types of diabetes, recent cancer, or certain health conditions are not eligible. Participants need to afford their medication through their insurance and must use birth control if needed.
