This study is about finding a way to reduce the use of opioids, which are strong pain medicines, after hip replacement surgery. Opioids can have side effects and be addictive, so doctors want to see if using different pain medicines can work just as well. In this study, adults having hip surgery for osteoarthritis will try a new pain plan that uses fewer opioids.
Key Points:
- The study will last for about 3 months, with check-ins at 1 week, 3 weeks, and 3 months after surgery.
- Participants will get either a standard opioid prescription or a fake pill after surgery, but will have a small amount of strong medicine for severe pain if needed.
- It's important to know that this study aims to reduce opioid use safely without affecting recovery or satisfaction.
To join, you must be having hip surgery for osteoarthritis and be able to follow study instructions. You can’t join if you have certain health issues or have used opioids recently.
