Phase 3

This study aims to test a drug called Seltorexant (also known as JNJ-42847922) to see if it helps people with Major Depressive Disorder (MDD) feel better. MDD is a mood disorder causing long-term sadness and lack of interest in daily activities. The study has two parts: one where neither the participants nor the researchers know if the participant is getting the drug or a placebo (a "sugar pill" with no active medicine), and another where everyone knows they are getting the drug to see if it's safe over a long time.

  • Study Length: The duration and number of visits required are not specified here.
  • Eligibility: Participants must have MDD, but not other severe mental health issues. Specific criteria must be met regarding past and current antidepressant use.
  • Risks: Participants with certain conditions or medication allergies should not join.
