Phase 3

PRE-EMPT Trial aims to test early treatment of mild heart disease. Atherosclerosis is when arteries get narrowed due to plaque, a sticky substance made of fat and cholesterol. The study has two phases:

  1. Screening Study: Participants will have their heart arteries checked for plaque using special X-ray scans. These scans include the Coronary Artery Calcium (CAC) Scan to detect calcium or plaque and Coronary CT Angiography (CCTA) Scan, which uses a dye to take detailed pictures of the heart arteries.
  2. Treatment Trial: If plaque is found, participants can join a two-year trial to test medications. They're randomly assigned to receive either medication to lower cholesterol and inflammation or a placebo (a pill with no active medicine). Everyone will be advised on heart-healthy habits.
  • Participants need to commit to up to 3 in-person visits over 2 years.
  • Participation involves home blood sample collection and phone check-ins.
  • Eligibility: Women 40-60, Men 30-50, must own a smartphone, and meet specific health criteria.
