This study, called GOURMET-VA, is about helping veterans with heart failure by checking if a special meal plan after leaving the hospital helps them. Heart failure (HF) is when the heart doesn't pump blood as well as it should. This study will compare two groups: one gets nutritional support and dietary education, while the other only receives dietary education. Veterans who have stayed in a VA hospital for at least 24 hours due to new or worsening heart failure can join if they can eat regular food and agree to the study rules.
Some people cannot join, like those with severe food allergies, on dialysis, or with other serious health issues. The study also excludes those with limited life expectancy, severe cognitive issues, or who can't control their diet after discharge.
- Participants may receive nutritional support in addition to dietary education.
- Eligible veterans must have been hospitalized for heart failure for at least 24 hours.
- Participants must be able to eat normal food without special preparation.
