Safety, Efficacy, and Pharmacokinetics of CSL889 in Adults and Adolescents With Sickle Cell Disease During Vaso-Occlusive Crisis

CSL889 trial for sickle cell crisis safety and effectiveness.

12 years and older

Phase 2

This study tests a medicine called **CSL889** for those with **Sickle Cell Disease (SCD)**, which affects red blood cells. During a **Vaso-Occlusive Crisis (VOC)**, these cells block blood flow, causing pain. The study checks if CSL889, given through a needle into a vein (intravenously), is safe and helps relieve VOC pain faster.

**Who can join?** People aged 12 and older with SCD who come to the study site needing strong pain medicine (opioids) for a new VOC. **Who can't join?** Those with VOC pain starting over 72 hours ago, a history of many VOCs needing hospital stays recently, or other specific health issues.

  • **Study Visits:** Participants will have multiple visits to the study site.
  • **Safety Checks:** Doctors will check how safe and effective CSL889 is during the study.
  • **Compensation:** Participants may receive compensation for their time.

**Note:** This study includes a comparison group, which means some participants will not receive CSL889 but a placebo (a harmless, inactive treatment) instead.
