Phase N/A

This study is for young people with Sickle Cell Disease (SCD), a blood disorder that causes pain and affects daily life. The trial will check if music therapy (MT) can help reduce pain and improve mood over a 4-week period. Music therapy is a safe way to manage pain without using medicine. It uses a special program called Music Care© that plays music to help relax and reduce stress.

Researchers will also look at how MT affects the body on a molecular level by studying immune cells. This involves a test called single-cell RNA sequencing (scRNA-seq) that looks at tiny details in cells. They will compare results with a control group to see if MT shows better outcomes.

  • The study lasts 4 weeks and involves using a virtual music platform.
  • Participants must have SCD, speak English, and access the internet.
  • People with major hearing issues or conditions worsened by music cannot join.

FAQs

Learn more about clinical trials

What is a clinical trial?

A clinical trial is a study designed to test specific interventions or treatments' effectiveness and safety, paving the way for new, innovative healthcare solutions.

Why should I take part in a clinical trial?

Participating in a clinical trial provides early access to potentially effective treatments and directly contributes to the healthcare advancements that benefit us all.

How long does a clinical trial take place?

The duration of clinical trials varies. Some trials last weeks, some years, depending on the phase and intention of the trial.

Do I get compensated for taking part in clinical trials?

Compensation varies per trial. Some offer payment or reimbursement for time and travel, while others may not.

How safe are clinical trials?

Clinical trials follow strict ethical guidelines and protocols to safeguard participants' health. They are closely monitored and safety reviewed regularly.
