Neurophysiology of Locomotor Adaptation and Freezing of Gait in Parkinson's Disease
Locomotor adaptation will be studied using an established split-belt treadmill paradigm, consisting of baseline (1:1 speed ratio), split-belt adaptation (2:1) and post-adaptation (1:1) walking. Split-belt walking will be performed under DBS ON and DBS OFF conditions, while off-medication.
exPDite-2: No Time to Waste
exPDite-2 is a double-blind, simulated surgery-controlled phase 3 study evaluating the potential efficacy and safety of an investigational cell therapy called bemdaneprocel (bem-da-nepro-cell) in Parkinson's disease. Visit the exPDite-2 website to learn more and see if you may be eligible to participate.
AR Stimulation Effects on Gait, Anxiety, and Brain Connectivity in Parkinson's Disease
A project aims at addressing gait impairments and non-motor symptoms such as anxiety and stress in Parkinson's disease (PD) patients through a novel approach involving heart rate variability (HRV) feedback and Augmented Reality (AR) training. The project is based on the premise that improving HRV, which reflects the adaptability of …
Correlation of STN-DBS Induced Visuospatial Changes and Freezing of Gait
The purpose of this research is to determine how deep brain stimulation (DBS) for Parkinson's disease affects attention and visuospatial function. Additionally, this study will evaluate how deficits in visual attention are associated with freezing of gait (FOG) in Parkinson's disease. There is currently no reliable treatment for FOG and …
Fexofenadine as Adjuvant Therapy in Parkinson Disease
Parkinson's disease (PD) is a chronic, progressive neurological disorder characterized by both motor and non-motor symptoms. PD is the second most common neurodegenerative disorder after Alzheimer's disease and the most common movement disorder. PD has age-related pathology; it is present in 1-2% of the population over 60 years of age. …
Pain in Parkinson's Disease: Exploration of the Serotonin System in Positron Emission Tomography (PET [18F]-MPPF)
This project will explore the involvement of the serotonin system in the pathophysiology of PD-related central pain. Thus, the serotonin system will be evaluated in PD patients with and without central pain who will benefit from brain positron emission tomography (PET) allowing in vivo imaging of 5HT1A receptors and multimodal …
The Effect of an Auditory Rhythmic Cue on the Frequency of Rolling in Patients with Dysphagia and Parkinson's Disease
The main objective of this clinical study is to measure the effect of rhythmic auditory cueing, introduced in rehabilitation with three weekly sessions over a period of 7 weeks, on the frequency of rolling in idiopathic Parkinson's disease patients using pharyngography (swallowing radiography). The primary question of this study is:Does …
Overnight Trials With Heat Stress in Autonomic Failure Patients With Supine Hypertension
Patients with autonomic failure are characterized by disabling orthostatic hypotension (low blood pressure on standing), and at least half of them also have high blood pressure while lying down (supine hypertension). Exposure to heat, such as in hot environments, often worsens their orthostatic hypotension. The causes of this are not …
Effect of Speech Therapy in Combination With Non-invasive Brain Stimulation on Speech of Patients With Parkinson's Disease
Up to 90% of patients with Parkinson's disease (PD) have hypokinetic dysarthria (HD) in the early phase of the illness. HD is characterized by a harsh breathy voice quality, reduced variability of pitch and loudness and imprecise articulation. This project investigates the novel combination of speech therapy and home-based non-invasive …
Repetitive Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation(rTMS) Regulating Slow-wave to Delay the Progression of Parkinson's Disease
At present, no drug therapy has been proven to delay the progression of Parkinson's disease (PD). rTMS, as a non-invasive neuromodulation method, can regulate Slow-wave sleep (SWS). SWS is recognized closely related to neurodegeneration. However, there has been no clinical studies on if rTMS could delay the progression of PD …
